Dave, Help Me!

About Me

I started Dave, Help Me! with the desire to deliver superior service to small Bay Area businesses and residential computer owners with the same level of excellence I had provided while working for large corporations.

I have more than 40 years of experience in High Tech working with Apple, IBM and Macintosh computers in addition to early email messaging systems, and the even more ancient Telex machines with their punched paper tapes!  I've worked for small Silicon Valley startups and Fortune 500 companies, consistently supporting their computers and networks as technology evolved. In addition to training from major technology vendors, I also have a certificate in Project Management from San Francisco State University College of Extended Learning, a B.A. in Experimental Psychology (with a minor in Anthropology) from San Jose State University, and worked as a Clinical Specialist in a Coronary Intensive Care Unit while serving in the US Army.

I am a member of the Dynamic Connections chapter of BNI, the world's largest business referral organization, which meets weekly in San Bruno. I currently serve as our chapter's Vice President (Spring 2019) and we welcome visitors: please visit our Facebook page for more info. Our network of local business professionals includes many highly rated service providers to whom I will be happy to introduce you. You can find their names and professions plus links to their business web pages here and under the Trusted Referrals navigation menu option.

The core philosophy of BNI is "Givers Gain", and for me this feels closely related to other ethical concepts such as reciprocity and "pay it forward". I'm sure my parents were the first people to show me that we should look for ways to help each other, but my most vivid memory of the phrase "pay it forward" comes from about age 9 or 10 when I read "Between Planets", a novel by Robert Heinlein (I'm also sure at that time my parents worried I would never read anything but Science Fiction!).  I also believe in win-win solutions and that you should not seek to gain something at the expense of another person, that each person needs to feel that they have received a fair value in any exchange. Part of what makes working in the tech support field so enjoyable for me is that I frequently get to help people regain the full use of their computer after they have fallen victim to malicious software.

Dave, and his trusty Prius!

Why do you need me?

  • Save money
  • Conserve valuable resources
  • Less downtime means more productivity
  • No IT employees to manage (I take care of everything)
  • Security
  • Safety
  • Growth management
  • 24/7 monitoring
  • Peace of mind

My services are ideal for small businesses who may not need an entire Information Systems department but could greatly benefit from periodic visits by a knowledgeable tech professional who understands your business requirements. I have customized many of the procedures used in managing large corporate computer networks to specifically meet the unique challenges faced by small businesses.

I provide easy to understand guidance and explanations, no techno-babble. If you're the type of person who is curious about the technical details I will answer your questions clearly and completely. However, if you'd rather just get the problem solved quickly and efficiently, simply point me at the problem and tell me "Go do it!"
